Godly Wisdom Scripture Reading: James 3:17 - 18
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.”
The bible tells us that the ways of God are so far removed from the ways of man, that they are higher than the heavens are above the earth, this is how far His thoughts are removed from our natural human understanding. It is for this reason that we must cry out for the renewing of our hearts and minds in thought, word and deed with, ‘Godly Wisdom’.
First of all it is pure, not seeking selfish interests, but looking at life, opportunities and others through the lens of being a blessing to others in the hands of God. Not only is God’s wisdom peaceful, but it loves, looks for, makes a way for and makes it their business to be a person of peace with others.
Most of us do not have too much trouble with being gentle or at least looking like it most of the time, because if we were not it would impede our progress. But God’s way calls us to be kind and gentle all of the time to all kinds of people in all kinds of places and situations. No wonder we need all of the Spirit of God at work both in and through us!
We know that in the world and business that there are many back room meetings with quiet words and agreements spoken and worldly kingdoms being raised up. You know what I mean: ‘You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’. True, this is the way that they world works, but we are called to show others another way, that does not engage in back room politics, and will refuse to show or play favorites to others, rather choosing to be open to one and all, in the same way that God is open to us.
If we do make the choice to live this way, we truly will stick out in this world, and it will not always be the easiest choice. But we will be planting seeds of peace that will raise up a harvest of righteousness. To be righteous means to have right standing before God, and I don’t know about you, but I do not value anything any more than that!
Prayer Father, I confess that I lack and need Your grace and wisdom to not only fill but to flow through my life to others. Help me to have these godly characteristics more and more in my life at all times towards all people I pray in the precious name of Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord.
Memory Verse: James 1:17a “Whatever is _____ and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.”
